Much of Port Royal sank during an earthquake in 1692, however.

Evidentally the Black Pearl was journeying in the Mediterranean Sea up through the beginning of this film. Norrington talks of almost catching them off Tripoli (which is in Libya), there is a Turkish prison early in the film, and there was also a fishing vessel with sailors speaking Turkish and Greek, suggesting they were near Turkey and Greece, across the water from Libya.
