Tiffy's Family Restaurant, 1060 W. Katella Ave., Anaheim, CA 92802, (714) 635-1801
Tiffy's is apparently a longstanding business on this corner, dating back at least to the 1970s. Oddly, I never visited it until 2002. There used to also be a Tiffy's on the Disneyland Hotel grounds, in the 1970s-1980s, which I believe used to play ragtime music in the background, so Tiffy's has a historical association with the Disneyland area. Also of mid-century Disneyland interest is that Tiffy's walls have large, old, black-and-white photos of aerial views of Anaheim and Disneyland, and Walt Disney. Unfortunately for tourist photographers, these photos are difficult to photograph due to their glass surfaces reflecting light from the windows, camera flash, and elsewhere.
I have to admit that Tiffy's does have a nice, busy, compact, family feel to it, which is a feel that many restaurants want but many have failed miserably to achieve (e.g., Big's Pizza & More). Tiffy's has an ice cream counter, an old player piano, old Disneyland photos, a Disney souvenir corner, mildly interesting overhead lights, and in general the restaurant buzzes with activity, somewhat like Farrell's Ice Cream Parlors used to do. This restaurant gets my thumbs up, at least for atmosphere and history.
As for the food, MousePlanet consensus is that the food is frequently gross, with a few favorable reviews. Rumor has it that CMs used to recommend Tiffy's to particularly obnoxious Disneyland guests as revenge. The ice cream, however, is definitely flawless. I've tried several different flavors here.
The way it used to be...
