The thatch umbrellas and colored patio fountains lend a Caribbean island theme.

The small fountain in the patio area is simple but pretty.

An elephant head and old-fashioned rifles lend an African safari theme.

A tiki and treasure chest lend a Hawaiian-Caribbean theme.

A macaw and flintlocks lend a Caribbean-pirate theme.

This restaurant certainly looks great, with a strong tropical atmosphere. It seems to be a confused mixture of Caribbean-Mexican-pirate-nautical, African, Hawaiian, and underwater atmospheres, but it works, especially at night, with the colored fountains, thatch umbrellas, and lighted fountains. I have to admit it's one of the very few modern restaurants in this area whose appearance I like. Its location is directly across from Disneyland's Harbor Boulevard entrance, just a few steps past the WALK signal on the other side of the street.

Online reviews of this restaurant on MousePlanet give very bad ratings for the food and service, but most of the complaints involve the buffet. I ate here myself twice in 2007 after reading the reviews, I avoided the buffet both times, and I had perfectly acceptable food with only one minor glitch in service. In general, I liked the place.

According to MousePlanet, this used to be Mom's Restaurant.

Captain Kidd's buffet has drawn strongly negative complaints in MousePlanet's online restaurant reviews.
